Package Design
Pet Toy Hang Tag
We were given the assignment to create a fold-over one color hang tag for a pet toy. I wanted to add an interactive element so I chose a dog & cat playing tug of war. The stretchable "rope" also kept the tag closed when displayed.
Cylinder
The assignment was to create a 2 spot color cylinder for a "kit". I really wanted to push myself and try to make it look like a lot more colors were used. I used the primary colors blue and yellow to my advantage to give me the third color of green. A lot of testing went into finding the right spot colors of blue and yellow to achieve the grassy green color that I was going for.
Bag
Creating a bag for a food product was the assignment. We could use three spot colors and also had to create a nutrition label. I couldn't decide between masculine or feminine so I made a pair of bags for chocolate lovers.
Box
We created a package design for a "kit" in a gable box using 1,2,3 or 4 spot color OR 4 color process. Designing a 4 sided package was a bit challenging but I really like designing for 3D applications.
Kitsch Package
With this assignment, we could really let our creative minds go. We had to "invent" a kitsch product and design the packaging for it. Our design could use any printing process, assembly and materials. Our only restrictions were that it had to be cut from 1 piece of stock, on one side and part of the product had to be showing. This project was so fun because we weren't confined to a certain type of package. I designed a Trailer Trash Snack Pack with Pork Rinds, Roadkill Gummies, BBQ Fudge, and Squirrel Jerky. I designed the die, which was created to be cut from 1 piece of stock.
